Bluetooth has a growing number of applications around the home. Obviously, all the IT applications talked about on the Bluetooth at work page are just as useful in the home environment, but it doesn't end there.
For instance, Sony Ericsson have released a Bluetooth-controlled toy car. It's like any other tiny remote control car, except you control it via your mobile phone. Perhaps not the most useful or practical of all the Bluetooth developments, but it shows what can be done!
Bluetooth technology is also starting to find it's way into general household appliances. Toshiba have launched a range of appliances called "Feminity" where all the appliances communicate with each other via Bluetooth. You get a central console with tells you what you have in your fridge, what you are running low on, and what is going out of date. You can also simply use the console to do your washing for you, by telling it what you have put in the washing machine and it will work out the correct cycle to use, connect via Bluetooth, and away it goes. These products are only available in the Japanese market at the moment, but you can be sure that similar products will pop up all over the world in the coming years.
A company called Crabat have come up with another new use for Bluetooth. The tiny scart-socket attachment to the right plugs into the back of your TV, and you can beam photos from your mobile phone to your TV instantly from the sofa, creating an instant slideshow. It also accepts mp3 music files sent from your PC or mobile, so you can beam music to it from your PC and fill your living room with sound wirelessly. This is a fairly new product and more gadgets on the same theme are sure to arrive soon.
